I'm doing keto but I keep reading that intermittent fasting makes keto work better. Do I need to add IF or is keto effective on its own? I don't want to add complexity if it's not necessary.
Keto vs intermittent fasting — should I combine them?

You absolutely do NOT need to combine them to get results. Keto works very well on its own — IF is an accelerant, not a requirement.
That said, here's the interesting thing: most people who do keto properly find they drift naturally toward intermittent fasting on their own without trying. When ketosis suppresses appetite, you stop being hungry in the morning, skip breakfast, and suddenly you're eating in a 6-8 hour window without thinking of it as "IF."
My recommendation: start with keto only. Get fully fat adapted (4-6 weeks). Then see what happens to your hunger pattern. If you're naturally not hungry until noon, embrace it — you're doing IF without even trying. Don't force both habits simultaneously at the beginning.
This was my exact experience. Started with just keto. By week 4 I was genuinely not hungry until 12-1pm. By week 6 I was naturally eating in a 6-hour window. Combined effect was more powerful than either would have been alone, and I got there organically rather than willpower.
The combination IS more powerful for weight loss — the data on this is pretty consistent. But the combination is also harder to sustain for beginners. One thing at a time. Get into ketosis, get adapted, then layer in fasting if you want extra results.
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Starting with keto only, not adding IF complexity on top. If the appetite suppression happens naturally like you all describe, I'll let it happen. Thank you!
