Lost 34 lbs in 3 months on keto — my honest story

I promised myself I'd post here if it worked because this forum helped me so much when I was starting out. It worked. 34 lbs gone in exactly 93 days.

Background: 44 years old, male, started at 247 lbs. Years of failed diets — calorie counting, WW, even a miserable month of veganism. Nothing stuck. A coworker mentioned keto in passing and I kind of rolled my eyes but also couldn't stop thinking about it.

Started October 1st, weighed 213 lbs this morning on November 1st. Wait, that's wrong — I started October 1st of LAST year, sorry. I'm posting on September 30th, 2025, exactly a year after I started. Feels right to do it today.

What I actually did: strict under 20g net carbs, one meal a day most days (so keto + OMAD), walked 30 minutes daily, no alcohol at all for the first 2 months. I'll answer any specific questions people have.

34 lbs in 3 months — that's a pace of roughly 2.5 lbs per week which is strong. Well done. OMAD is a powerful multiplier with keto, I agree. When did you start OMAD — from day one or did you ease into it?

Started OMAD at week 3. Weeks 1-2 I ate 2 meals because I was still adapting. Once I was fully in ketosis the hunger just... disappeared in a way I'd never experienced on other diets. I wasn't trying to do OMAD — I just genuinely wasn't hungry until dinner time and eventually stopped fighting it.

This is so inspiring! Did you have a plateau at any point? And what did the first week look like scale-wise?

First week: -9 lbs. I know that sounds insane but it's real — mostly water and glycogen. Then weeks 2-4 were about -2 lbs per week. Then I hit a 10-day plateau around week 8 where literally nothing moved. I didn't change anything, just waited it out, and then lost 4 lbs in one week right after. The body is weird.

Thank you for posting this. Stories like yours keep people going when they're in week 3 and frustrated. Did you exercise much beyond the walking?

#5

Nope. Just the 30 minute walk. I didn't want to over-engineer it — I was trying to build ONE sustainable habit (keto) not six habits simultaneously. The walking was more for mental health than weight loss honestly. Most of the results came from diet alone.

Bookmarking this thread. Exactly the kind of realistic, no-BS account I needed to read today. Congratulations — and thank you for coming back to share it.
