Best keto protein powder that doesn't spike insulin

I lift weights and feel like I need protein shakes but I read that whey protein spikes insulin almost as much as carbs. Which protein powder is actually safe for keto?

The insulin response to whey is real but context matters. For most people doing keto while exercising, a moderate insulin spike post-workout is fine — it's anabolic and helps shuttle nutrients into muscles. The spike is transient.

Lower insulin response options: Casein protein, egg white protein, beef protein isolate, and plant proteins (pea, rice). These are better if insulin response concerns you specifically.

I switched from whey to a pea/rice protein blend and my ketone levels are more stable post-workout. Naked Nutrition unflavored pea protein is the best neutral-tasting one I've found.

Beef protein isolate (Equip is popular) has a very low insulin response and excellent amino acid profile. Tastes like chocolate milk when mixed right. More expensive but no weird aftertaste that plant proteins can have.

Honest take: unless you're doing therapeutic keto where strict ketone levels matter, whey post-workout is fine for most people. The insulin spike lasts 30-60 minutes then normalizes. Don't overthink the perfect protein powder if the basics are dialed in.
